iNDEPENDENT sTUDY - pROJECT 1

Modeled utilizing Autodesk Maya

This is Project 1 of 3 in my Independent Study Project series. This is a replica of a building from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Expansion Pack: Blood and Wine.

Although not directly to scale, I attempted and succeeded of capture all aspects of the original model in my very own.

I had a difficult time with the arches as I couldn’t see all angles on the building. I had the same difficulty with the back of the building.

Overall, I managed to capture the whole scene to the best of my ability. This project was quite challenging, but the end result was worth it.

iNDEPENDENT sTUDY - pROJECT 2

Modeled utilizing Autodesk Maya

This is Project 2 of 3 in my Independent Study Project series. This is a replica of Counter Strike: Global Offensive’s map Inferno, Bombsite A.

From my last project, I wanted to expand on my modeling knowledge and challenge myself. I learned new techniques and ways of putting parts of the structure together. I included details such as the roofing, piping on the side, and making the crates that are scattered along the site.

I thoroughly enjoyed this project as CS:GO is one of my favorite games up to date and I was enthusiastic with the result of this model. I’m happy that I was able to learn from the mistakes I made in the first project and apply it to this one as well as push myself to the lengths of doing more.

Independent Study - Project 3

Modeled utilizing Autodesk Maya

This is project 3 of 3 in my Independent Study Project series. This is a replica of Overwatch’s map Ilios Lighthouse.

While doing this series of projects, I have grown as an artist. Although simple, this is the first model I created that involved an inside that is seen. I do have to admit, there are faults in my models as I was a bit “edge-loop” happy, but I did get a product that I’m pleased to show off.

During this project, I feel I was able to continue expanding my skills in 3-D architectural modeling such as doing a better clean-up job, utilizing more tools that Maya has to offer, and overall creating a clean model.

I learned a lot during the making of this model. From creating the inside, adding more detail to the walls, and even making a lighthouse, I feel like I did this point of the map justice. I do have to admit, I did get stuck at certain points whether that was extruding edges too many times or having multiple faces on top of one another.

I was able to complete three, different styled buildings over the course of the course of 4 and half months. I wanted to do an Independent Study during this time because I wanted to challenge myself, learn, and explore the world of architectural modeling. I feel pleased with myself and the models I made, but there is still ton to learn. I’m confident in my work now more than ever, I’m excited to learn even more beyond what I experienced during this time and I’m looking forward to the future doing 3-D Environmental Art.
